Fieldnotes
mild steel structures, 17.0×10.5×24.5cm (#1), 6.5×3.5×3.0cm (#2), 2024

Fieldnotes is a series of shelf structures made for found rocks and natural objects. The shelves, individually designed and hand-polished, follow the shapes of what they hold.

Fieldnotes series appropriates structures of support for cultural heritage objects. These structures–folders, boxes, shelves, vitrine cases, rooms–range from the generic to the purpose-built, often depending on the significance and/or fragility of the things they hold. Offering storage, protection and continuity, they usually disappear in the background and behind their objects, inheriting the narrative of space as passive, static, and unintelligent. Fieldnotes seeks to reflect on this narrative, tailoring containers for often unremarkable objects to make visible the agency of support structures in meaning production.
